Hello. Steven here and welcome to my cyber-corner. Let me start by saying, "We all have them." Yes, those too but I am talking about excuses. Those little voiceovers in our minds that tell us why something is too hard, too time-consuming, or just plain impossible. As a counselor and mental fitness coach, I’ve seen firsthand how these excuses can become roadblocks on the path to success. They creep in when we least expect them and often prevent us from achieving our true potential.

But here’s the hard truth: excuses are nothing more than stories we tell ourselves. They might sound convincing, but in reality, they keep us stuck in the same patterns, far from the goals we dream about.

So, how do we break free from these excuses? It starts with recognizing them for what they are – a mental barrier designed to protect us from discomfort or failure. The first step is to challenge those excuses head-on. Ask yourself: Is this really true? What evidence do I have that supports or contradicts this story?

For example, let’s say your excuse is: “I don’t have enough time to work on my goals.” Instead of accepting it as fact, challenge it. What activities are you prioritizing? Could you carve out just 20 minutes a day to make progress? The truth is, we always make time for the things that matter to us.

Another common excuse is: “I’m not ready for this.” My response to that? You’ll never feel 100% ready. Growth requires action, even when you feel uncertain. You build confidence through doing, not by waiting for the perfect moment.

When we push back against our excuses, we begin to realize just how much control we have over our choices. Success isn’t about waiting for the perfect conditions — it’s about showing up and putting in the work, despite the hurdles we think are in our way.

Remember, excuses are a normal part of life, but they don’t have to dictate your future. The next time one pops up, pause, challenge it, and take one step forward. Success isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress, one courageous choice at a time.

Challenge your excuses, and watch how much you can achieve.
